5@7 SPOTS IN OLD PORT

Long work days call for unforgettable 5@7s! Located at the edge of Old Port, Marche des Éclusiers is a haven from the city noise – right on the water. The serene atmosphere really surprised me, even though the media event was swarming with people, I truly felt like I was outside of the city. Two floors of local small business owners offering a “genuine farm-to-table experience” of well sourced foods from organic drinks to fair-trade coffee! My personal favorites were:  pulled pork burgers from Diablos BBQ Smokehouse and coffee with homemade cookies from Volcanic Organic! We’ve all heard of the so called ‘organic/bio’ trend, but I think it’s a lot more than that – it’s about changing how we think about food & becoming more conscious consumers with a focus on quality, health & community. Aside from being a stop for groceries, it’s an awesome place to hang out after work. They have an amazing terrace where you can grab a drink or a bite to eat, while enjoying live music from local artists!

Location: 400 rue de la commune west (corner McGill), Montreal (QC), H2Y 2E2

Nothing beats bar or resto hopping & if burgers are more your thing, head over to 155 Fahrenheit located practically next door to Marche des Éclusiers! For those who are curious, the name of the restaurant steams from the fact that a meat patty is cooked to perfection at 155F (yup, I had to task, lol). Delicious gourmet burgers are the house specialty, but an original dish of brussels sprouts with blue cheese & buffalo sauce has quickly became the customers’ fave (and mine too btw). Aside from that, the restaurant offers a variety of dishes to satisfy every palette – from the meat lover to the vegetarian. Casual, laid back yet very upbeat environment and the only place with a vertical hydroponic herb rack (mint, oregano, verbena, anise, dill, lavender, tarragon, and sage) that are all used in the meals and drinks prepared by this resto – how cool is that?
